The kids were given a lesson on how to play croquet, then enjoyed a number of innovative and traditional versions of the game.
"After four hours of play their intensity level did not wane and most were not ready to finish, although some of the adults were feeling a little tired," the club's Liz McDonald said.
The junior development day, held on a Sunday, was the start of a busy week for the club.
On the Monday, 50 of the club's 84 members enjoyed social play along with four participants from a disability service group from Woodrising.
And on the following two days the club hosted its Golf Croquet Spring Carnival.
Competitors from Sutherland, Strathfield, Mount Sugarloaf, EDSACC, Monash (Victoria), Macquarie City, Maitland, Jamberoo and Coogee challenged the locals.
The tournament was held in three graded blocks.
Block A attracted five doubles pairs with handicaps below 4. After contesting eight games over the two days, the Toronto pairing of Greg Burnes and Keith Harvey won from Kevin Parkes (Toronto) and Brenda Wild (Mount Sugarloaf).
Block B attracted eight pairs with handicaps below 8.
Block B pairs played seven games over the two days.
Peter Gordon and Sherry Gordon, of Nelson Bay, edged out Susan Yule and Gordon Kerr representing EDSACC, of Bateau Bay.
Block C also attracted eight pairs with handicaps of 9 and over.
Sandra Jones and Paul Yardy, of Mount Sugarloaf, won, with the Toronto pairing of Phil McDonald and Liz McDonald the runners-up.
