The eighth annual Real Film Festival was launched this week.
It promises three weeks of "bold films of real stories and cutting-edge documentaries" starting November 15.
This year's festival boasts an impressive line-up of guest presenters, screen industry skills workshops, panel discussions with filmmakers, and documentary film screenings.
Venues across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens will host festival events.
On Thursday, November 21, the documentary The Final Quarter about AFL footballer Adam Goodes, and how Australian football crowds turned on him, will be screened at Warners Bay Performing Arts Centre at 6pm and 8pm.
Festival director Annette Hubber said the festival featured films by independent international, national and local storytellers whose presence at the festival created "a buzz and honesty".
"It's a world class event right on our doorstep," Ms Hubber said.
"I believe that the Real Film Festival truly celebrates the Hunter region's unique personality; we love to share stories about local people, discuss our awareness of global issues and celebrate our passion for film."
The festival not only caters to audiences who love film, but to locals who aspire to make their own.
Ms Hubber said this year's festival program offered exciting opportunities for the "emerging content creators" of the region to tap into the expertise of screen industry practitioners.
"The workshops on offer this year are delivered by the highest level of industry professionals and we are thrilled to bring this calibre of industry to our own promising regional screen sector," Ms Hubber said.
Workshops will cover everything from visual effects, script development, virtual reality and the changing world of television and streaming content to prosthetic wounds, directing, cinematography, and acting.
