A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the Sparks Road car park has been built as part of the upgrade to the M1 between the Tuggerah and Doyalson interchanges to improve traffic flow and safety.
"This is one of three upgrades making up the $391.6 million M1 Productivity Package, which has been jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments," the spokesperson said.
"The car park at Sparks Road contains 85 spaces, including one disabled parking space, and provides commuters with a safe place to leave their vehicles while car pooling to either Sydney or Newcastle.

"Motorists are encouraged to make use of the formalised car park and avoid parking on the verge at Sparks Road as upgrade work will soon start in this area."
The spokesperson said work was progressing well on the Tuggerah to Doyalson upgrade project, which involves widening a 12-kilometre section of the M1 to provide three lanes in each direction and also rebuilding the roadway to provide a smoother and more durable surface.
"This upgrade will cater for an increase in traffic due to growth in the Central Coast, Hunter and the North Coast," the spokesperson said.
"The community is thanked for its patience during these important works."
