Work will involve removing a temporary shift currently in place and moving motorists to the left onto the newly built permanent northbound lanes for about 3.8 kilometres, starting just south of the Alison Road overpass and ending about 1.5 kilometres south of the Sparks Road interchange.
"Recent adverse weather conditions forced the delay of the opening of the lanes, which was originally scheduled for today," a spokesperson for Transport for NSW said.
"This will be the first of some upcoming changes in this area which will allow the existing southbound lanes to be improved. More information about these southbound changes will be provided before work is carried out.
"Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time."
