The Awesome Foundation, which launched in Lake Mac in 2019, is offering five $1000 grants over the next 12 months for locally based projects.
Board member and local businesswoman Nicki Abercrombie said Awesome Lake Macquarie helped make valuable community ideas and initiatives a reality via "no-strings-attached" grants.
"There are no set rules, but we would love to see projects that are innovative, exciting and unusual, and ideas filled with passion and purpose," Ms Abercrombie said.
Projects funded in 2019 included Hope in a Suitcase, which provides a suitcase of supplies to children in the Hunter living in foster care, community yoga initiative Yoga Magic, and the Baby in Time community support group for people who have endured miscarriage and other forms of infant loss.
Awesome Lake Mac is the local chapter of a global community supporting projects through $1000 'micro-grants', with all funding coming from the pockets of each chapter's trustees.
The first step of the process is for applicants to complete a registration form, detailing what their project is and how the $1000 would benefit their idea.
For fellow board member Ben Dawson from Transport NSW, it was important the process be as straightforward as possible.
"We will work with anyone who is unsure on how the grant process works and provide mentorship," Mr Dawson said.
"We are a very inclusive organisation, we want to see good ideas and we encourage those from everyone."
The Awesome Foundation has awarded almost $7 million worth of grants worldwide since launching in Boston, USA, in 2009.
Grant submissions close on March 12 for the first round of 2020.
