The Newcastle International Short Film Festival, or the NISFF for short, is set to return to the Royal Exchange Hybrid Arts Centre, in Bolton Street, on Friday, November 15, and Saturday, November 16.
The Lakes Mail has two double passes to give away to the Friday night screening, and two doubles for Saturday night.
NISFF features short films from around the world - including from Spain, Latin America, South Korea, Mexico, Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Australia - and promises to "bring the world to Newcastle, and to take Newcastle to the world".
Festival co-ordinator and award-winning short filmmaker, Mike Griffin, said the event was a good for Newcastle.
"Newcastle is a city with a vibrant cultural life and the population of the Hunter region is now big enough to host significant international events," Griffin said.
"It's time Newcastle and the Hunter were recognised for the contributions they make, and can make, to Australian life.
"We have deliberately tried to give the festival an international feel. We have also tried to make the festival accessible to filmmakers of all financial backgrounds so small-budget independent productions are not disadvantaged and filmmakers from developing countries are not excluded."
The films in this year's festival range from animation and live-action narratives, to experimental and documentary films. Some are very short at 3 minutes, and the longer ones run for up to 20 minutes.
"Audiences will be treated to a magical night at the cinema with a diversity of voices being heard. Some are funny, some are clever, some are simply heartbreaking," Griffin said.
Visit NISFF's Facebook, Twitter and website pages or phone 4929 4969 for ticket enquiries and bookings.
For your chance to win a double pass to the festival, put your name, address and daytime phone number in an email to info@lakesmail.com.au. Type 'Film Festival Giveaway' in the subject line.
Entries close at 10am on Wednesday, November 13.
Winners will be notified by phone. Their tickets will be available at the venue.
