The Collectors exhibition, scheduled to go on show at SEEN@Swansea from April 2020, will also explore the reasons why people collect.
"This exhibition will give visitors a sense of the fun, creativity and dedication integral to collecting, whether it's stamps or Star Wars memorabilia," Lake Macquarie City Council's arts culture and tourism manager Jacqui Hemsley, said.
"It's also a chance to compare notes with other collectors, and to share that passion for collecting with the community.
"We would love to hear from anyone in Lake Mac interested in sharing their collection and their story for this exhibition."
Items that collectors contribute to the exhibition will be loaned to the council under a formal agreement.
Collectors interested in participating can apply online through the council's SEEN@Swansea website or by calling 4921 0333.
SEEN@Swansea is open daily from 10am to 3pm.
