Coles and its customers across Lake Macquarie were ranked among the Top 10 most generous in NSW, by raising more than $14,500 over five weeks as part of the supermarket’s Christmas campaign to help Redkite support families affected by cancer.
Coles supermarkets at Bonnells Bay, Morriset and Warners Bay raised more than $5,290, $4,980 and $4,230, respectively.
The annual fundraising campaign was launched at Coles supermarkets nationally in November.
It raised more than $315,000 across the state and $1.42 million nationally.
Redkite CEO Monique Keighery was appreciative.
“We can’t thank the Lake Macquarie community enough,” Ms Keighery said.
“The generosity and kindness of Coles’ team members and customers sent a very clear message of support to our families at Christmas.
“Every purchase from the range of Redkite Christmas merchandise – from the donation cards to the Gerry the Gingerbread biscuits and toys – ensures that families have access to counselling at the hospital bedside, music therapy to ease the pain and help with keeping the lights on when things are financially tough."
Lake Macquarie residents contributed by purchasing $2 donation cards, as well as Coles’ new range of Redkite Christmas biscuits and merchandise, with funds going directly to Redkite.
Coles state general manager Reagan Lauder said Coles was humbled by its generous customers who had helped to make a real difference to Redkite who provided vital care and support to cancer-affected families when they needed it most.
“We are incredibly thankful to our customers and team members for their amazing support in raising money for children and their families affected by cancer,” Ms Lauder said.
“At a time of year when the pressure on families can be heightened, our customers can take pride in enabling Redkite to provide vital care and support to cancer-affected children and families when they need it most.”
All donations from the campaign will help Redkite provide essential support to young people with cancer and their families.
