Ninety people took the Citizenship Pledge at the council chambers on Saturday. Among them were families, couples and individuals from Denmark, New Zealand, Nepal, Germany, India, the United Kingdom, Peru and Russia.
“Lake Macquarie is a wonderfully diverse community and we continue to be enriched by the contributions made by people from other countries and cultures,” mayor Kay Fraser said.
“It is a privilege to welcome all of our new citizens and share this special day in their personal journeys to citizenship.
“We are fortunate to be able to welcome them to our community as they make Lake Macquarie a more diverse, vibrant and interesting place.”
The Bamberger family of four, of Valentine, took the pledge on Saturday, after relocating from the United Kingdom in 2011.
“Lake Macquarie is such a beautiful part of the world, with a great sense of community and it offers the perfect lifestyle for our family,” Gary Bamberger said.
“It feels like home and it is where our children have grown up.”
