While the festival officially runs from February 13 to 24, the entire month of February is jam-packed with events and activities for Central Coast residents aged older than 50.
Council’s connected communities director, Julie Vaughan, said the festival celebrated seniors and their significant contribution to the community as workers, volunteers, neighbours, friends, parents and grandparents.
“People over the age of 60 represent more than 27 per cent of our population, and they play a very important part in our community life,” Ms Vaughan said.
“This festival provides local seniors with a great opportunity to get together, make new friends, learn a new skill or try something different. Pick up one of our calendars and choose from the more than 100 events on offer.”
One of the highlights of the festival is the annual Seniors Concert and Expo at Central Coast Council’s Wyong headquarters on Thursday, February 14.
The popular concert will feature both amateur and professional entertainers and the expo will provide information about local aged care services.
Some of the other events planned for the northern parts of the Central Coast include.-
- the musical comedy review, Senior Moments, starring John Wood, Benita Collings and Max Gillies, at The Art House on Saturday, February 2, at 2pm or 7.30pm;
- a free seminar on ‘Nutrition and Cooking for Positive Ageing’ at Toukley’s 50+ Leisure and Learning Centre, at 10.30am, on Friday, February 8; and
- an introduction to Active Over 50s Classes at Lake Haven Recreation Centre, from 8.30am to 9.30am, on Wednesday, February 13.
Mayor Jane Smith said this was the time for local seniors to shine and have fun celebrating their age, wisdom and experience in a fun and friendly environment.
