The lights, on the main shopping strip in Morisset, received a good workout when the Lakes Mail observed them in action on Friday night.
All but one of the pedestrians that the Lakes Mail observed made use of the lights to cross the road.
There had been concerns that the new lights, installed at a cost of $500,000, would add to traffic congestion in the town.
But, on Friday, the sequencing of the lights appeared to prevent any knock-on problems for the Dora Street intersections with either Doyalson or Station streets.
The lights were installed to replace the zebra pedestrian crossing which was deemed to be dangerous because it has been the site of car crashes and injuries to pedestrians over several years.
An RMS spokesperson said in the five years to June 2015, there were six recorded crashes in this area with three of the crashes resulting in injury.
Two of the crashes also involved a pedestrian crossing the road.
Local shop workers told the Lakes Mail the former pedestrian crossing had been the site of regular near misses, and that the sound of screeching tyres was commonplace.
