Traffic light congestion
THE majority of feedback regarding what to do about the pedestrian crossing on Dora Street, Morisset, is against the installation of a third set of traffic lights in the space of 300 metres (“Opinions divided on crossing”, Lakes Mail, May 31).

Often, while driving off the north-bound off-ramp of the M1 Pacific Motorway, into Morisset, the traffic is backed up. My question is what is the outcome once traffic is backed up onto the M1? Is traffic supposed to queue on a major freeway?
I await a response from Roads and Maritime Services management.

Why we need the Senate
I WRITE in response to Ron Elphick's letter (“Senate useless appendage”, Lakes Mail, May 31). The Senate performs a valuable function as a house of review. In the 2003 federal poll, the Coalition gained control of both houses. They used this situation to ram through the unpopular Work Choices legislation. This was the main reason they lost the next election in 2007.
More recently, it is arguable that we would not have got same-sex marriage or the banking royal commission without the work of the Senate. Mr Elphick suggests that we should “sack the Senate and start paying off our national debt with the savings”. Ironically, both sides in the lower house are planning to squander the windfall increased revenue on reduced income tax to bribe voters at the next election, while voices in the Senate are suggesting more is allocated to reducing our debt.

Hung up on broadband
I MUST admit the broadband connection of our landline phone sucks. First there was a three-month disconnection, when they tried to fix the problem, during which l was still charged the normal monthly agreed plan fee (including a late payment fee).
It is now more frustrating with the limited time given to now answer the phone, which automatically goes to message bank after six rings. l have tried to extend this time limit, but l talk to deaf ears.
Considering the majority of people still connected to landline broadband telephone services are probably the older generation (as myself) - people who take much longer than six rings to reach the phone - people who have to make a paid call to re-connect, l ask why is this so?
Hang on, l believe l am answering my own question. Maybe it's time to join the younger ranks and ditch the landline phone, and the parasites who don't know the meaning of service, or the value of a customer.

Parents set the example
CHILDREN need to learn respect and how to be a good sport from their parents or carers. This clearly wasn’t shown one recent Saturday at an under-9s soccer game I attended. To the volunteer coaches and managers of all kids’ sporting teams, you do a great job. Thank you.

Jellyfish more common
I READ the article ("Rare jellyfish a danger", Lakes Mail, May 31). I would like to advise that I also sighted the Morbakka fenneri jellyfish. I don’t know the exact date but it was about a fortnight ago. I didn’t realise it was a Morbakka, but I pointed them out to my husband as we walked along the water’s edge.
It was a jellyfish I had never seen in the lake before, and I expressed my concern that it looked a lot like a Morbakka. He assured me that was not possible and we continued on our walk.
There were about half a dozen of them in a little channel of water between rocks at Fig Tree Point, Boat Harbour, at Balcolyn.
I just thought I should let people know that their presence is possibly far more widespread than suspected.
