WESTLAKES District Netball Association’s open team won the Netball NSW Division 2 title at the state championships at Gosford over the June long weekend.

The Westlakes team dominated the division, finishing the three days of competition undefeated after 18 matches.
WDNA’s Nicole Carrall said conditions were far from ideal over the long weekend.
“Constant and at times torrential rain made for some slippery play under foot and the winds made courtside conditions icy for players, spectators and officials,” Ms Carrall said.
Some 96 teams from 71 associations from across NSW travelled to Gosford for the 50th year of the Netball NSW state championships.
Having won the runners-up blue patch earlier this year in the Hunter Regional League Competition, the Westlakes open girls were hopeful of competing for another patch at Gosford.
Ms Carrall said the girls played with style and grace to record 17 wins and one draw, an 18-all tussle against Young and District.
Along the way, Westlakes enjoyed wins over Gunnedah 28-3, Sapphire Coast 31-10, Armidale District 27-7, Cobar 29-8, Lakeside 24-12, Wollondilly 15-9, Nelson Bay 21-12, Eurobodalla 36-9, Ulladulla and Districts 26-14, Cessnock 29-9, Singleton 25-10, Coffs Harbor 21-15, Dubbo 25-11, Nambucca Valley 25-21, Tamworth 28-11, Narrabri 37-14, and Great Lakes 20-15.
Co-coaches Denise Wiltshire and Sue Shelley were impressed by their team’s stamina, skill and determination.
“These girls have consistently given of themselves and reached inside to play outstanding netball when the fuel tank must have been empty,” Ms Wiltshire said.
“Sue and I are extremely proud to be their coaches and their achievement this long weekend.”
The team comprised Tara Culbert, Tayla Elsley, Jazlyn Evans, Khiara Jones, Tianna Baldock, Emily Keogh, Emily Morgan, Gabby Nayler, Tina Smalley, and Chelsea Townsend.
