Brisbane Water police were patrolling at Erina about 9.30pm on Sunday when they noticed a Nissan Elgrand driving erratically.
Officers attempted to stop the car on Sherwood Drive at Springfield.
Police said the car stopped momentarily before reversing into the front of the officers' car. It is alleged the vehicle drove forward again before reversing back into the bonnet a second time.
The car drove a short way before conducting a U-turn and running into the police car a third time.
The car subsequently left the scene.
The police officers in the car, two male senior constables, were uninjured.
They called for assistance, with officers finding the Nissan nearby on Willow Road.
Officers, including the dog unit and police helicopter, set up a perimeter and searched unsuccessfully for the driver.
Investigations are ongoing.
Anyone with information is urged to call Gosford Police Station on (02) 4323 5599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
