LAKE Macquarie City Council on Monday nominated mayor Kay Fraser or deputy mayor Nick Jones to attend the 2020 International Children's Games in Hungary, in July, as the city's representative. The 54th International Children's Games will be held in Kecskemet, Hungary, from July 1 to 4. The International Children's Games is a recognised member of the International Olympic Committee and is the largest multi-sport international youth games in the world. Up to 1500 athletes take part annually. (A story in today's Lakes Mail incorrectly states the council nominated the mayor and the deputy to attend the event.)

Poster art draws inspiration
MAYORS of the bushfire-ravaged South Coast have welcomed an evocative tourism marketing campaign launched by news publisher ACM to boost visits to holiday towns hit hard by what one mayor calls "the lost summer of the beast". The South Coast is Calling campaign features a series of specially commissioned artworks by Walkley Award-winning cartoonist David Pope of ACM's The Canberra Times. Styled as vintage tourism posters, the lush illustrations celebrate the seaside beauty spots and quaint country villages that made headlines worldwide as deadly bushfires besieged Australia's south-east, trapping thousands of residents and holiday-makers and choking major cities in smoke.
