Jaime Ryan, 25, last week gained Australia's 49er FX class spot with partner Tess Lloyd for the Tokyo Games.
Will Ryan and crewmate Mat Belcher, who claimed silver in the 2016 Rio Olympics, were declared Australia's 470 crew last October.
Jaime Ryan and Lloyd were announced as Australia's 49er FX crew on Thursday. Ryan was 15th with crewmate Carrie Smith in the women's 470 at Rio.
Jaime has been on scholarship with the NSW Institute of Sport since 2017.
Speaking to the NSWIS on Thursday, she could barely contain her joy.
"I'm so happy and so excited. We've known for a couple of days now," she said.
"It's interesting to try and compare how I felt this time four years ago.
"I think this time I'm equally as excited and equally proud to get the chance to represent Australia."
Jaime said she was rapt to team up with Lloyd.
"We've been improving all the way through with our sailing, and we've got it together just in time. And that's what we want to keep doing, as well. We want to keep improving right through to the Games."
She said the selection announcement had prompted the pair to do some serious planning.
"There's been lots of organising and logistics in the last few days to get everything organised," Jaime said.
"We'll head to Europe in two or three weeks' time for some competitions over there, and then spend quite a lot of time in Japan in those last few months before the Games."
Australian Chef de Mission for Tokyo, Ian Chesterman, welcomed the four sailors to the 2020 team.
"It's exciting to see sailing put together such a world-class team," Mr Chesterman told the NSWIS.
"It is a phenomenal accomplishment to make an Olympic team and today is worth celebrating not just for the selected athletes, but their coaches, support staff, families, friends and supporters who helped make them the athletes and people they are today.
"All four athletes have shown incredible dedication and talent to reach this stage and I look forward to seeing them continue towards Tokyo."
The sailors will race on Enoshima Harbour in Tokyo, the same venue used at the 1964 Games.
