TORONTO Workers were no match for cross-lake rivals Belmont in their Newcastle district cricket match at Ron Hill Oval on Saturday. But the home team did again show some mettle, displaying stern resistance in their second innings having been asked to follow on. The Kookaburras started the day at 4-35 in pursuit of Belmont's 234. They did not make a good start, losing Ben Roberts (16 runs) to a run out in the opening overs. Roberts and captain Corey Brown attempted a quick single, but some sharp fielding and a direct hit meant Roberts had to go. Aidan Fealy looked positive in his first grade debut. He was prepared to play shots as the Belmont new-ball duo of Jace Lawson (4-38) and Daniel Bailey (3-48) looked to turn the screws. He was dismissed for 12 when he lifted a drive off Bailey's bowling to Alexander Cook at short mid-off. Ashley Weekes top scored for Toronto with 30, including five boundaries. Toronto was dismissed for 122, and Belmont enforced the follow-on. Toronto made a better fist of it the second time around, and reached 1-82 from 22 overs when stumps were pulled. Opening batsman Connor Lupton finished 41 not out, with skipper Brown 26 not out. Toronto will travel to take on Stockton and Northern Districts this Saturday.
