Morisset Lions Club is encouraging locals to donate their old glasses to help deliver the gift of sight to people in third world countries.
Lion Rod Garrett said the Morisset group was backing the Lions Recycle for Sight program. It takes donated glasses, cleans and grades them, then forwards them to Lions Clubs around the world for use in needy communities.
"It's a chance for people to de-clutter and get rid of their old sunglasses, prescription glasses and reading glasses," Mr Garrett said.
Collection boxes, like the one shown in our picture, have been set up at Dora Creek Pharmacy, Bonnells Bay Pharmacy, Priceline in Morisset Square, and Soul Pattinson Chemist, Morisset.
Lake Macquarie Lifestyle Community, in Morisset, has a collection box, too. And Mr Garrett is encouraging other local residential villages to follow their lead.
