LANDCARE volunteers who painstakingly remove weeds from beautiful natural areas at the top end of the Central Coast have received a welcome boost in the form of federal government funding.

Member for Shortland, Pat Conroy, recently presented almost $35,000 to three Central Coast Landcare groups, through Central Coast Council, under the Shortland Communities Environment Program.
Budgewoi Beach Dunecare was granted $20,000 for dune regeneration, targeting removal of weeds such as bitou bush.
Budgewoi Island Landcare was granted $4,968 for removal of weeds such as asparagus fern and coastal morning glory.
And Gwandalan Landcare was granted $9,500 for removal of weeds such as lantana from swamp forest and coastal floodplain.
Other projects to receive funding under the program Fern Creek Landcare, Dudley, which received $20,000 to enhance the habitat for the threatened squirrel glider; and Belmont Wetlands State Park which received $18,416 for dune rehabilitation at Nine Mile Beach.
Mr Conroy said the money would be put to good use.
"I am pleased to have been able to provide so many local environment groups with funding to help continue their important work," he said.
"We are surrounded by such natural beauty in Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast, and we are fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers working to restore and regenerate our beaches and wetlands."
