THEME songs from movies. Popular hits from today. Jazz and big band standards from yesteryear. And even marches and hymns.

Western Lake Macquarie Concert Band (WLMCB), at Rathmines, plays them all.

And they'd like you to join them in the band.

So, make this the year that you learn how to play a musical instrument - or maybe dust off one in the cupboard.

The band rehearses on Tuesdays at Westlakes Music Centre, at 3 Stilling Street, Rathmines, from 7pm to 9pm.

They have instruments for hire, and lessons are available for most instruments in the concert band.

Any new musicians are encouraged to arrive at 6.30pm to chat with the musical director (or phone 0490 282 611). WLMCB now accepts NSW Creative Kids vouchers towards music tuition.

Toronto Brass, one of the Hunter's leading brass bands, and the Toronto Brass Junior Band, are also recruiting. Email president@torontobrass.org.au or phone 0402 003 214 for details.

And the fun-loving community choir, Stilling Street Singers, resumes rehearsals at Rathmines on Monday, February 3. Phone Murray Scoble on 0419 290 432.
