RADIO announcer and entertainer Carter Edwards was among the local recipients of Australia Day Honours on Sunday.

Mr Edwards, of Canton Beach, received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the general division for service to broadcast media, and particularly radio.
Mr Edwards has worked on the 2SM Super Radio Network (formerly 2HD Newcastle) since 1986.
He was inducted into the Australian Country Music Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2005, and received the ICMA AWard for Most Popular Commercial Radio Presenter in 2014.
Mr Edwards is also a two-time Mo Award winner for Australia's Most Versatile Entertainer (1980, 1981), and won the Clio Award for 'Best TV Commercial for Home Improvement in the World' in 1978 for the Tabman's Paint TV commercial in which he sang I Did It My Way.
Among the Hunter's OAM recipients were Newcastle charity director Julie Ainsworth, the Newcastle Industrial Heritage Association's Aubrey Brooks, University of Newcastle archivist Gionni di Gravio and Newcastle sports reporter and Newcastle Rugby League board member Leigh Maughan.
John Cootes Furniture Warehouse founder John Cootes won an OAM in honour of his efforts with organisations including Men of League, the St Vincent de Paul Society and Speers Point Sailing Club.
Tuggerawong's Margaret Pearce received acknowledgment for her 21-year tenure in Lions Club International that has also included stints as charter president and district government.
