We visited on the opening weekend and enjoyed the outdoor art projects including the evolving mural, various Aboriginal art workshops, local artist markets, and music.

The opening exhibition in the gallery space is very special. Contemporary, universal, modern Aboriginal art informed by ancient practice, and treasures from the collection, including Dobell, Boyd, Blackman and Olley.

MAC staff and the cultural experiences team at Lake Macquarie City Council are deserving of congratulations for bringing back this magnificent contribution to the cultural life of our community. I encourage everyone to visit our new MAC and follow the exciting program of events planned.

I WRITE regarding Richard Mallaby`s spiel on climate change, ("Enough Already", Lakes Mail, October 17). The last time the temperature and carbon dioxide levels were this high was not 3 million years ago, but between 400 and 500AD when there was no industry as we have now, and a much smaller world population.

As far as I know scientists do not know what caused this climate change event which has been kept very quiet. Also, if solar power is so much cheaper than coal power why are China and India continuing to build coal-fired power stations?

I FULLY agree with Marion Baldwin in her op-ed piece ("Country club was heart of community", Lakes Mail, November 14) and understand her feelings about the closure of the club.

I agree also with Christine Alan Langley in the Backchat column (November 14) who said "the community should not have lost such a valuable community asset".

But I disagree with Mark Leahy (Backchat) who said the golf course had been a wasteful use of resources, including water. What about the water that will be required in the building and maintenance of the new homes that are now planned for the former country club site?

I think there is nothing more picturesque and scenic than approaching Morisset from the south and seeing the Morisset golf course. It won't look the same with homes there.

Before council considers any decisions on the future of the country club site, why not put it to a community vote?

IF I read another report that the world will come to an end if temperatures rise by an additional two degrees, and Australia needs to play its part and start spending money, I think I will puke.

The only problem I foresee is there are too many climate scientists trying to prove their worth and ability to predict the future by using theories from computer analyses based on selective input.

It's one thing to have research with an open mind, as in real science, but to do research with a preferred conclusion using theories, called climate science, pushes the boundaries of acceptance to a possibility, but not a probability.

No one can predict the future, nor control the climate, regardless of how many scientists say it's possible.

I realise many climate scientists work for grants to pursue preferred results, and I would expect it's a case of 'no results, no continuation of grant', so I leave it to common sense to decide what is real, and what is fabricated.

No. I am not a climate change denier. It definitely changes.

I just don't believe the climate can be controlled with human intervention.
