YMCA NSW (the Y) has established a youth team at the Gravity Youth Centre, in Lake Haven.
The new team, Lisa Browne, the community and youth programs manager, and Virginia Walshaw, the youth and programs coordinator, are experienced Central Coast youth support workers.
They have more than 15 years' local experience and are keen to develop and deliver innovative support, leadership and advocacy programming for local young people aged 12 to 25.
"What excites me most is the thought of building from the ground up," Ms Walshaw said.
"Developing a Y Space here on the Central Coast; consulting, working with and empowering local young people at a local level, and addressing local needs and issues.
"Traditionally, the weight of services and youth activities have been centred around Gosford and Wyong, so the opportunity to deliver programming and develop partnerships in the wider Lake Haven region is incredibly important."
Ms Browne said the Y was not new to the Coast, as it had delivered the successful Breakfast Program out of Lake Haven Recreation Centre for the past 10 years.
She's now keen to introduce the Y's other successful programs to young people in the area.
"The first project out of the gate is the acclaimed Streetgym - a free program giving young people aged 12 to 18 the opportunity to engage in structured physical activities and a healthy afternoon tea in their own neighbourhood," Ms Browne said.
"Streetgym will be run come rain or shine every Thursday, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, during school term, at the Outdoor Rec Facility, Lake Haven Recreation Centre.
"We're really looking forward to meeting more young people in the area and to rolling out more of our popular youth programs."
