A new community event that aims to highlight Lake Macquarie's rich diversity drew about 300 people to Speers Point Park on Tuesday.

The Great Get Together Picnic jointly celebrated the council's Me2 program, Children's Week, Mental Health Month and Lake Macquarie Family Day Care's 40th birthday with free food, entertainment and activities.
The picnic included a reptile show, therapy ponies, Cycling Without Age chauffeured bike rides, yoga and face-painting.
Entertainment was provided by local school groups and Hunter-based singer Connor Wink.
"Celebrations like the Great Get Together Picnic provide everyone an opportunity to get involved in their community, regardless of age, background or ability," Lake Macquarie City Council's manager of community partnerships, Andrew Bryant, said.
The day was supported by The Heart Foundation, Samaritans, KU Inclusion Agency, Lake Mac Libraries, Lake Macquarie Family Day Care, BE You, Interrelate, Lifeline suicide prevention, Northcott, Milabah, Yogic Wisdom, Nikinpa Aboriginal Family & Child Care Centre, Woolworths Mount Hutton and St John Ambulance.
