Morisset Rotary Club will stage the event at Morisset High School on Sunday, November 17, from 9am to 4pm.
"Time Out is a community and family festival focusing on ways to take time out of our busy lives to improve and maintain our physical and emotional health and wellbeing," Morisset Rotarian Susan Shing said.
Professional artist and art teacher, Helene Ruma, of Wangi Wangi, is among the locals who will host a fun activity on the day.
In fact, it will combine elements of two of the Time Out themes - art and exercise.
She's calling it projectile art.
"For a gold-coin donation, people can take a balloon filled with paint and throw it at the large canvas we'll have at Time Out," Ms Ruma said.
In the afternoon, Ms Ruma will then take the paint-splashed canvas an attempt to turn it into an artwork with a bit more structure.
"Once I've finished, I'll be giving that painting to the Rotary club for them to sell, and help with their fundraising," Ms Ruma said.
The projectile art project was a timely reminder that art didn't always have to be polished, she said.
Ms Ruma said that she first discovered the therapeutic benefits of art as a child.
Today, as an art teacher, she enjoys seeing pupils of all ages explore their feelings through art.
"People can use art as a visual diary, rather than having a written diary," she said.
And it's not just children or talented artists who enjoyed the mindfulness that came from being engaged in art, she said.
The popularity of colouring books for adults was proof of that, she said.
"There's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to art," she said.
"Art can just be drawing squiggly shapes and using colours to fill it in."
She encouraged reluctant artists to give the colouring books a try.
"They are so relaxing," she said.
