The Fernleigh 15 gives people the chance to run, jog or walk the beautiful 15-kilometre Fernleigh Track, from Adamstown to Belmont, without having to share the route with traffic or bicycles.
Greater Bank has teamed up with Run NSW to stage this year's event.
"Participants who choose to dress up can submit a photo of themselves or their team to the Greater Bank website - greater.com.au," a spokesperson for the Fernleigh 15 said.
"There will be a public vote held after the event, and the owners of the photo with the most votes will win the cash. What's more, the first 250 runners to cross the line in costume will receive a custom Frankenstein-themed medal for their participation."
Regardless of your athletic ability, taking part in the Fernleigh 15 is an experience, not just a run.
Participants start the event at St Pius X High School, Adamstown, and head out into suburban settings before running through the iconic Pacific Highway tunnel linking Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. The track then passes through the leafy Glenrock Reserve and past the historic coastal town of Redhead.
The run culminates over boardwalk sections of paperbark swamp and finishes at the Belmont railway platform.
The race usually attracts about 1,200 participants.
This year's event will offer runners the chance to compete as an individual and complete the 15km course by themselves, or as a part of a five-runner relay.
"This relay is exciting and popular providing runners of all ages and abilities the chance to run the Fernleigh if 15km is a little too far," the spokesperson said.
"The whole event is a great day out for all, with a family fun zone at the finish line with games, music, giveaways, a jumping castle, food trucks and more."
