Lions club president Bruce Macfarlane said it was an important event for the community, especially given the dire warnings of a dangerous fire season.
"Bush fire officer, Matt Anderson, from Fire and Rescue NSW, will discuss issues important to every local householder in the Rathmines, Arcadia Vale and Wangi Wangi area," Mr Macfarlane said.
The NSW Rural Fire Service recently announced an early start to the official bush fire danger period in Lake Macquarie and on the Central Coast.
"According to the Bureau of Meteorology, rainfall for the first half of the year was very much below average," Mr Macfarland said.
"In addition, temperatures are expected to be warmer than average and rainfall lower than average up until the end of the year. Because of this heightened risk of bush fires, the bush fire alert levels are already at the 'severe' level.
"Fire Authorities are therefore urging residents to know the risks, be prepared, and take precautions now."
Those who attend the information session will learn about preparing a home for the fire season; what the fire alerts and warnings mean; and what's involved in devising a bush fire survival plan.
RFS deputy group captain Lee Willis, Lake Macquarie City Council's bush fire control officer Craig Holland, and National Parks and Wildlife Service ranger for the Lower Hunter, Amber Clarke, will also take part in the session.
They will be available to answer questions.
Mr Macfarlane acknowledged the involvement of Wangi RSL Club in helping to stage the event.
"A well-informed community can make the job of fire authorities so much more effective in protecting properties in a fire emergency," he said.
For this reason, Wangi Lions is pleased to play its part in keeping our locality safer from the threat of fire."
Tea and coffee will be served after the presentation.
