Central Coast Council said it was 'moving forward to deliver a new sporting and recreation complex for the north' which would service the growing areas of San Remo, Blue Haven, Halekulani and Budgewoi.
The Colongra Sporting Complex site spans across two hectares on Scenic Drive and is surrounded by bushland.
It is set to include two new turfed sporting fields, three netball courts, sporting amenities building with accessible toilets, playspace, carpark, pathways and access road.
The project was slated by Wyong Shire council before amalgamations took place, following a detailed community consultation process.
According to the council, two viable sites were identified for the project during the planning process.
The Scenic Drive site was determined to be 'most suitable with the least environmental impact'. The two-year project works are part of Central Coast Council's Operational Delivery Plan 2019-20 with an investment of $5 million.
Initial works on the project include clearing of land to enable the site to be ready for construction.
According to the council an ecologist will be on site during the works to ensure minimal environmental impact and any fauna habitat sites are successfully relocated.
