An annual fundraiser that aims to support those affected by congenital heart disease and honours the many children who have lost their lives is set to take place at Lake Macquarie in September.
The annual Heartkids Two Feet & A Heartbeat charity walk will take place on September 8 at Speers Point Park.
The event takes place at more than 25 locations across Australia. Registrations start at 9am for a 10.15am walk.
HeartKids Two Feet & A Heartbeat is a charity fundraising walk in support for kids affected by congenital or acquired heart disease.
Participants can either walk 4km, in honour of the four Australian lives lost to congenital heart disease every week, or 8km in recognition of the eight babies born with congenital heart disease every day.
The annual charity walk is an opportunity for the local community to unite in support for HeartKids and their families.
It is also an opportunity to remember those who have lost their lives to congenital or acquired heart disease, affectionately referred to as Heart Angels.
Participants will receive fun spotty socks to wear and a flag to carry while completing the course, with the flag colour representing their connection to congenital heart disease.
- Blue represents those living with congenital heart disease
- Red represents those walking in support
- White represents those walking in memory of a Heart Angel
The event commences with a special tribute ceremony during which participants are invited to lay flowers in memory of a Heart Angel that has been lost to congenital or acquired heart disease.
Two Feet & A Heartbeat participants pay a registration fee, with all funds raised helping HeartKids to deliver family support programs that improve the lives of those affected by congenital heart disease.
Heartkids is Australia's only national charity solely dedicated to providing lifelong support to children, teens and adults affected by congenital or acquired heart disease throughout their life journey, including in-hospital and community-based support services that help families with financial and emotional support.
