It is based on the tragedy Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare and is set to draw on the emotive themes of ambition, jealousy and betrayal within small communities pushed to the fringes of society.
Set 30 years from now, Brutal incorporates contemporary Indigenous dance, music, physical theatre and poetry during an eight-day season between September 6 and 15 at The Launch Pad, Jopuka's home base in Tuggerah Business Park.
Company Artistic Director, Joshua Maxwell, shared his personal insight into expanding Jopuka's repertoire into the sphere of dance theatre.
"There are so many poignant moments in Shakespeare's original play, and so many subtle yet powerful emotions that the characters must portray accurately through movement," Maxwell said.
"Contemporary Indigenous dance is a truly special, immersive means of conveying a story and watching our emerging artists stretch themselves artistically has been incredible."
Tickets are available from www.jopukaproductions.com.au or via the company's Facebook page.
