MEMBER for Shortland, Pat Conroy, has spoken out on the dropping of longtime rugby league caller Craig Hamilton from ABC Radio Newcastle's commentary of NRL matches from next season. Mr Conroy said: "A grave injustice is being foisted upon rugby league fans, and ABC Radio Newcastle rugby league fans in particular." He said although Hamilton would remain a full-time employee at ABC Newcastle, a Sydney caller would cover Newcastle's home games. "The Knights are a religion in Newcastle and Hammo is part of that religion. Hammo's call must go on!" Mr Conroy said.

Campus celebrates 30-year milestone
STAFF, students and alumni from the University of Newcastle's Ourimbah campus have gathered to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the facility. Since welcoming its first cohort of 89 students to the campus in July, 1989, more than 15,000 students have completed degrees, courses and diplomas offered by campus partners - the University, TAFE NSW and Central Coast Community College. The campus has come to offer state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities.
Amber Lawrence to headline Coast Country Music Festival
AMBER Lawrence will headline the Central Coast Country Music Festival at Memorial Park, The Entrance, this Sunday, August 11. Also on the bill are Sunny Cowgirls, The Viper Creek Band, Christie Lamb, Lizzie Steadman and Chelsie Berman. The music starts at 10am, with Lawrence due on stage at 3pm. There will also be country music at venues around the park, including Waterfront Plaza and Long Jetty Hotel. The festival will include whip cracking and line dancing. Public welcome at AGMs for halls and ovals
THE Toronto Ovals Community Operating Committee annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 14, from 7pm, at Toronto Workers Club. The Wyee Community Hall Operating Committee AGM will be held at the hall, at 114 Wyee Road, Wyee, on Thursday, August 15, at 7.30pm. The public is welcome to attend the AGMs of these Lake Macquarie City Council facilities.
