ALMOST 600 trailers and utes took advantage of Lake Macquarie City Council's free compost giveaway over the weekend. More than 330 tonnes of compost was given to residents to help make their gardens greener. Feedback from the community about the weekend's event has been "overwhelmingly positive", with many residents commenting on how well organised the weekends event was. Another free giveaway event is planned for later this year.

Deadline looms for payments
LOCAL families have until June 30 to claim a Family Tax Benefit and Child Care Benefit for the 2017-18 financial year as a lump sum. "We're reminding families who didn't claim these payments during the 2017-18 financial year to make a lump sum claim so they don't miss out," Department of Human Services general manager Hank Jongen said. Play spaces boost health
SINCE the amalgamation of the former Wyong Shire and Gosford City councils in 2016, Central Coast Council has constructed 57 local play spaces (52 replacements and five new) and five district-level play spaces, undertaken 12 partial play space replacements or additions, and installed outdoor gym equipment at five locations. Mayor Jane Smith said play had many benefits for the entire community, and improved people's health and quality of life.
