The loss reversed the 20-12 win Macquarie had over Souths in Round 2.
Cessnock, meanwhile, downed the previously undefeated Western Suburbs 13-9 at Cessnock Sportsground on Saturday.
Kurri Kurri beat Lakes 28-10 at Kurri Sportsground, and Maitland downed Central Newcastle 22-10.

Macquarie will travel to tackle Central Newcastle at St John Oval this Saturday at 3pm.
In the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League A-Grade competition, Dora Creek will travel to play Waratah Mayfield at Waratah Oval at 7.30pm on Friday.
Dora Creek are the undefeated competition leaders after eight rounds, and are on 16 points.
Waratah Mayfield are fourth on 10 points.
