THE next stage of $4-million works to improve Wyee Road has started, with motorists being urged to observe the reduced speed limits.

Lake Macquarie City Council said the works were designed to improve safety for motorists along the busy stretch of road.
The roadworks, along a 1.6km stretch of Wyee Road, include widening the road, the extension of four culverts, line marking, installation of guardrails and other associated infrastructure.
Council's asset manager Helen Plummer said Wyee Road was a busy route in need of a makeover to deliver a smoother and safer driving experience.
"Over the past two years, a series of improvement works have been completed to different sections along Wyee and Ruttleys roads, Wyee, and this is the next stage in the works to provide an improved experience for all road users," Ms Plummer said.
"With more than 25,000 vehicles travelling along Wyee Road daily, it is one of the busier roads in the city."
There will be changes to traffic conditions during the work.
Council said it would minimise disruptions to the community wherever possible.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down and adhere to speed reductions and signage in place.
Works are expected to be complete by late this year, weather permitting.
"We would like to thank the community for their ongoing patience throughout these construction works," Ms Plummer said.
Council is poised to spend more than $37.5 million on road works and traffic improvements in 2019-2020.
Some $4 million has been allocated to the Wyee Road upgrades. The project is jointly funded by the state government and council.
Wangi Road
MEANWHILE, Roads and Maritime Services is continuing improvement works on Wangi Road, near the intersection with Douglass Street, in Dora Creek.
The work includes rebuilding and widening a 600-metre section of the road, installing safety barriers, and new line marking. A 40kph speed limit applies.
