In recent correspondence to Rathmines principal, Nick Walker, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority CEO, Robert Randall, wrote:
"ACARA has identified your school as having demonstrated substantially above average gain in reading and/or numeracy achievement, as measured by (2018) NAPLAN."
The CEO noted the continued improvement was "significant and worthy of highlighting and acknowledging".
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) is a series of tests focused on fundamental literacy and numeracy skills.
Students sit NAPLAN tests in years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
Mr Walker paid tribute to the ongoing commitment of the school's staff to providing an engaging, supportive and high-quality learning environment.
"The factors which contributed to the 2017 NAPLAN results at the school continue to yield very positive outcomes for children in all classes," he said.
Mr Walker placed particular emphasis on the effectiveness of the Explicit Instruction program which is in the fourth year of implementation at the school.
Excellent collaboration between teachers and the sharing of best practice; the ongoing implementation of the Targeted Early Numeracy program in Kinder and Stage 1 classes; the creative and productive use of technology; and the school's excellent intervention and support programs were other contributing factors, he said.
"It's important to note that all of these strategies work in conjunction with a broad range of programs which are focused on educating students for life by fostering their sense of wellbeing and developing their personal values of honesty, resilience, empathy respect and responsibility," he said.
