As a team, Mr Deer and Warren Kildey of Newcastle have raised more than $160,000 for children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.
They hope to generate another $10,000 when they hit the road at Newcastle on Sunday for the 2,200 kilometres trek through remote communities including Bomaderry, Moruya and West Wyalong.
More than 100 cars are expected to participate in the bash.
"The Variety NSW Bash is all about the kids and giving back to those in need," Mr Deer, a former primary school teacher, said.
"I have worked with children all of my life and understand the importance of access to books, technology devices and play equipment. To see the smiles on the faces of rural children when they have received gifts for over two decades has been priceless and brought much joy to Warren and myself."
"The camaraderie, friendships and bonds formed with other competitors has also added greatly to the experience."
Making news
Mr Deer said many companies had generously supported the team over the years.
Among those local businesses is Grosvenor Engineering Group.
"With the help of sponsors, we can continue to bring smiles to many more faces. It is a humbling experience to be involved with an event that has done so much for disadvantaged children in rural communities," Mr Deer said.
Troy Maarschalk of Grosvenor Engineering Group, in Adamstown, said the company's support for Mr Deer and Mr Kildey was enduring.
"This is the sixth year that we have sponsored Bruce and Warren, donating over $25,000 to their cause," he said.
"Education is the foundation for children's growth. As a community-minded organisation this is our way of giving back and supporting disadvantaged children at a grassroots level."
Variety - the Children's Charity head of regional development, Jason Bourke, praised Mr Deer and Mr Kildey for their long-term commitment to the bash.
"The Variety NSW Bash helps kids overcome barriers to reach their full potential. Big hearted guys like Bruce and Warren will make a lasting difference to kids who face all sorts of challenges such as isolation, financial hardship, disability and sickness in life," Mr Bourke said.
"We salute all our Variety bashers and thank them for their dedication to helping kids get a fair go in life."
