First-time low-range drink-drivers in NSW will lose their licences on the spot under tough new laws to be introduced this month. Transport and Roads Minister Andrew Constance said all drink-drivers would face at least a three-month suspension from driving and a $561 fine as part of the new penalty regime. He said the government was taking a zero-tolerance approach to drink-driving. It means anyone caught drink-driving in NSW, at any level, including low-range, can now lose their licence immediately.

Home care funds promised
LABOR has committed to funding a $250,000 upgrade of the Lake Haven Masonic Village home care kitchen if it wins government at the federal election on May 18. Member for Dobell, Emma McBride, said the funding would enable the kitchen to keep up with the growing demand for its crucial service on the Central Coast. "This commitment will help older Australians stay in their own homes with dignity for longer," Ms McBride said at the funding announcement.
Traffic on Carters Road, Lake Munmorah
CENTRAL Coast state Labor MPs have vowed to push the new Berejiklian government to deliver road upgrades in the region. Member for Swansea, Yasmin Catley, said: I am gravely disappointed the government has taken no action on Carters Road. It will be my priority to work with the community and the government to find a solution to the traffic chaos in Lake Munmorah." The Pacific Highway upgrade through Wyong was also overdue, the MPs said.
Barbecue facilities at Morisset pool
BARBECUE facilities will be added to Morisset Swim Centre. It's part of minor upgrades to be made at the five Lake Mac Swim Centres over winter. The works are funded by the state government's Stronger Country Communities Fund and Lake Macquarie City Council. Mayor Kay Fraser said with more than 306,101 visitations since June the swim centres were a valuable asset. "By providing additional shade, seating and barbecue facilities, we hope to create a more family-friendly environment," Cr Fraser said.
