The funding for San Remo Epicentre would be part of a $40-million commitment over four years to emergency relief organisations across the country, he said.

The funding would "reverse Liberal cuts" to emergency relief organisations and provide a much needed funding top up to the sector, Mr Conroy said.

Emergency relief organisations support vulnerable Australians who have nowhere else to turn by providing assistance such as food hampers, transport vouchers and financial assistance.

"I am pleased to offer continued support to San Remo Epicentre, which helped 2,300 people last year with emergency financial relief, food, and vouchers for petrol, prescriptions and gas and electricity bills," Mr Conroy said.

"The centre's paid staff are supported by a host of volunteers who run a community restaurant and breakfast club, and help support vulnerable members of our community affected by unemployment, family breakdown and domestic violence.

"Many live with disabilities and mental health issues, and all are affected by the increasing cost of living, making it harder to make ends meet. San Remo Epicentre offers an important safety net for our community."

Mr Conroy said the the Coalition government was stopping the funding for many emergency relief services at the end of the year. This would see community organisations being forced to close their doors or slash the services.
