INDEPENDENT state MP Greg Piper said he had been campaigning for Morisset Police Station to be open 24 hours, seven days a week.

The Member for Lake Macquarie said he also wanted local police numbers boosted to better match population growth.

"We've done well to get brand new police stations at Morisset and Toronto, but I've been campaigning for better police numbers and to get Morisset station opened 24/7," Mr Piper said.

"Given the population increases in the area, particularly around Cooranbong, Wyee, Morisset Park and Bonnells Bay, I've been pushing for 20 additional officers to be added to the Lake Macquarie police district."

Mr Piper said some locals had been critical of the fact the new Morisset station was not open around the clock and, at times, was not open during business hours because of operation reasons.
