It was Lea's second eight-wicket haul of the season, and follows his career best figures of 8-20 against Merewether at Ron Hill Oval in January.
Lea's work might not be done at Newcastle.
In reply, Toronto slumped to 3-20 from 13 overs before stumps on Saturday, so Lea could well be required to contribute with the bat, too.
When play resumes this Saturday, Josh Westwood (2 not out) and skipper Adrian Chad (0 not out) will take up the modest run chase for the Kookaburras.
This Saturday's fixtures are the last of the regular season.
Semi-finals will be played at the weekend of March 23 and 24, with the final to be played the following weekend. Toronto started the final round in second position on the ladder with 64 points. Hamwicks lead with 67.
