"The match was a dour affair with both teams adopting a conservative approach befitting a knock-out competition," Wyong football secretary Stephen Marks said.
Neither team scored in the first quarter.
"The Roos defended their line for long periods but engineered few scoring opportunities of their own," Marks said.
Possession began to swing in favour of Wyong in the second period. They converted that into points in the 30th minute when right centre Luke Dolbel shrugged off some tiring defenders to score next to the uprights.
Lachlan Hanneghan converted to give the Roos a 6-nil lead.
The Magpies replied shortly afterwards when they collected a dropped ball and worked upfield, aided by consecutive penalties, and threw their big men at the Wyong line.
Back-rower Haimona Hiroti crashed over and halfback Beau Henry converted.
Wyong reclaimed the lead in the third period when Ethan Tetevano wrestled the ball down to score. Hanneghan converted to give Wyong the 12-6 lead they clung to through the final quarter.
Wyong will host Guildford Owls at Morry Breen Field this Saturday, March 2, at 3pm, for a spot in the final.
