IT'S Clean Up Australia Day this Sunday, March 3. Volunteers are needed to become site supervisors and assist with sites across the region, from public bushland and parks to foreshore and coastal areas. Locals can join registered sites including McDonald's in Toronto at 10am; 52 The Ridgeway, Bolton Point, from 9am; and Eraring Walking Track, at Rocky Point Road, from 8am. Visit cleanupaustraliaday.org.au to find a local registered site, or simply pick a spot near you that needs some work and pitch in.

Funding approved
LAKE Macquarie City Council on Monday approved the allocation of more than $40,000 to community events as part of the Community Event Funding Program. These events include the Dobell Festival of Arts and Crafts (presented by Wangi Lions Club); the Caged Bird Exhibition and Judging and Family Day (presented by Australian Fife Club of NSW); Pirates of Penzance (presented by Opera Hunter); and various Anzac Day events across the city, the council said.
