"Following this inspection, a hygienist was engaged to confirm the material," a spokesperson for the council told the Lakes Mail on Monday.
"Council received advice from the hygienist that asbestos fibres could be present within the piling that surrounds the baths and recommended that the baths be closed to the public."
Council is now awaiting formal advice from the hygienist, which will establish if the materials will need to be removed and the possible method for removal.
"Until this advice is received, we cannot determine when the facility may be reopened or if the facility will require replacement," the spokesperson said.
