Council’s Aboriginal community development officer, Maree Edwards, said council was offering $12,000 worth of grants across two categories.
“The grant enables not-for-profit organisations and schools to apply for funds up to $2500 in category one, and up to $750 in category two,” Ms Edwards said.
“Last year, we assisted 17 individual NAIDOC Week events and programs within Lake Macquarie. These events enabled thousands of residents, visitors, school students and communities to celebrate and participate in specialised and dedicated NAIDOC Week activities and events.”
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
To apply, download the application form and guidelines from lakemac.com.au and submit the completed form to council by 5pm on Friday, March 8, 2019.
