The Olympic gold medal winner and America’s Cup skipper will talk about his rise through the sailing ranks – including the highs and lows – and his latest sailing exploits.
The ‘Making of a Champion’ night will be held just a couple of days after Outteridge completes the latest leg of the international GP 50 series on Sydney Harbour.
The event will be co-hosted by Wangi RSL Club and Wangi Lions Club as a fundraiser for Hunter farmers who are battling drought.
Wangi Lions Club member David Ransom said it’s shaping as a particularly big night for Lake Macquarie yachties “from grizzled old salts to aspiring juniors”.
“The audience will get a rare insight into the world’s most sensational yacht racing,” Mr Ransom said.
“Lake Macquarie junior sailors are encouraged to attend and will be admitted free but must be accompanied by their parents.”
Outteridge will be interviewed by Wangi Wangi resident, author, and Newcastle Herald journalist Scott Bevan.
Lion Derek Pola said the function would be the first drought-relief fundraiser in the ‘Making of a Champion’ series.
“This fundraising is geared to provide for individuals under enormous personal stress,” he said.
“All moneys raised will be for the support of families, not fodder or ongoing costs, of the affected farms.”
Monday’s event will include the audience in a question and answer (Q&A) session also involving Nathan’s sister, Haylee, and father, Tony, who is an Australian sailing performance pathway coordinator.
Sailing equipment will be auctioned, and there will be wine-tasting and a raffle draw with a prize of three nights’ accommodation on Hamilton Island, Mr Pola said.
Admission costs $30 and includes canapés and a free drink.
Arrive at 7.30am for an 8pm start.
Tickets are available through Wangi RSL Club on 4975 1433.
