The plane, which had taken off from Luskintyre Airfield, near Maitland, landed on the strip of Lake Macquarie coast about 11.30am.
Lake Macquarie lifeguards from Blacksmiths attended the scene, near Belmont Golf Course, although no one was injured in the landing.
The veteran pilot, Charlotte Zeederberg, was the only person in the plane. Ms Zeederberg was the first woman to fly the Tiger Moth aeroplane at Maitland’s Steamfest last year.
Wayne Franklin towed the plane off the beach, saying it was “remarkable” it was a safe landing.
“There’s no damage to the plane, it’s incredible,” he said.
“She ran into trouble over Redhead Bluff, the plane started splattering.
“We thought she’d be panicked, but she was fine. There’s heaps of campers on the beach, so she was worried about them.”
Police visited the beach after the landing and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau were notified.
“About 11.30am today, a light aircraft experienced engine difficulty and landed on Blacksmiths Beach,” a police spokesperson said.
“The plane landed without incident and the pilot, the sole occupant, wasn’t injured.
“ATSB [Australian Transport Safety Bureau] has been notified.”
