Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast, Scot MacDonald, joined Liberal candidate for Wyong Ying Shu Li-Cantwell to announce the completion of works on Tuesday.
Mr MacDonald said it was a significant milestone in the state government’s election commitment to build a new station in the local area as part of the $122 million Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration (RAIR) program.
“This new ambulance station will complement the existing $200-million redevelopment of Wyong Hospital to ensure the best health and emergency support for Wyong,” Mr MacDonald said.
The new NSW Ambulance station at Hamlyn Terrace includes:
- internal parking for up to 13 emergency ambulance vehicles;
- administration and office areas;
- staff amenities;
- logistics and storage areas;
- training / meeting room;
- internal wash bay; and
- staff parking.
Health Infrastructure and NSW Ambulance would now begin the internal works and fit out, and then operational commissioning of the station, Mr MacDonald said.
The station was designed with input from local paramedics, and would enable NSW Ambulance to better meet the mobile emergency care needs of the local area for years to come, Ms Li-Cantwell said
“I am committed to seeing further world-class health and ambulance facilities for Wyong, like the station here today delivered by the NSW Liberal National Government,” Ms Li-Cantwell said.
The government was investing in purpose-built and modern ambulance stations to help support the “clinical capability of our highly trained paramedics”, she said.
The station is scheduled to become fully operational by mid-2019, Mr MacDonald said.
The RAIR program represented the biggest regional and rural transformation of NSW Ambulance infrastructure in the organisation’s history, he said.
In December, construction of the $4.2-million ambulance station at Toukley was completed.
