ROADS and Maritime Services boating safety officers inspected 1875 vessels across the state during ‘Operation Safe Water: You’re the Skipper, You’re Responsible’ and found almost 90 per cent of boaters to be compliant with water safety regulations. The started on Saturday, January 12, and finished on Sunday, January 20. “It was pleasing to see that during the operation nearly all boaters were wearing lifejackets and were compliant with safety regulations,” NSW Maritime executive director Angus Mitchell said.

Lake Mac closures on Monday
LAKE Macquarie City Council’s administration building, works depot, and Lake Mac Libraries will be closed on Monday, January 28. Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery will be open from 11am to 4pm, and Lake Macquarie Visitor Information Centre will be open from 9am to 4pm. Lake Mac Swim Centres will be open public holiday hours, and normal patrols will occur on Lake Macquarie beaches. Waste bin collection services will be provided as usual.
PFAS test results from lake
THE state government has completed testing of fish and crustacea in Lake Macquarie for per-and-poly fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and found there is no level of concern to fishers or recreational users. Over the past year, Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) have undertaken sampling of a range of popular edible fish and crustacean species from Lake Macquarie.
