Lake Macquarie City Council’s asset manager, Helen Plummer, said the roadworks will deliver a safer environment for road users and residents.
“The upgrade will ensure the road infrastructure will continue to meet the needs of the growing Wangi community into the future,” Ms Plummer said.
The project includes drainage improvement works, new kerb and channeling, a new parking lane, construction of a new footpath, new bus stop boarding points, road reconstruction and road resurfacing.
The project is expected to be completed in late 2019.
“There will be changes to traffic conditions during the work but we will minimise disruptions to the community wherever possible,” Ms Plummer said.
“Motorists are encouraged to slow down and adhere to speed reductions and signage in place.”
Watkins Road, Wangi Wangi, is part of a 1250km network of roads managed and maintained by the council.
Council is forecast to spend $26 million on road resurfacing and upgrades in 2018-2019.
