New wave legends Icehouse, fronted by the charismatic Iva Davies, will headline By The C on Saturday, January 19 alongside pub rock kings The Sunnyboys, Do Re Mi, The Church and Mental As Anything.
Camp Shortland, near Nobbys Beach, in recent years has hosted the youth-based This That and baby boomer-focused Live At The Foreshore festivals.
The former shifted to Wickham Park in 2017 and the latter was re-branded as Generation X festival Scene & Heard.
By The C, organised and promoted by Zaccaria Concerts and Touring, will also travel to Wollongong, Coolangatta, Geelong and Adelaide through January and February and aims to provide “a celebration of live music, food and community at iconic coastal locations around Australia”.
Icehouse, best known for classics like Electric Blue, Great Southern Land, Hey Little Girl and Man Of Colours, last performed in Newcastle in February 2016 when they sold out two nights at the Civic Theatre.
Davies will lead Icehouse on a tour through the band’s catalogue of music spanning 40 years when they return to Newcastle.
Deborah Conway and Helen Carter will be back together on stage as Do Re Mi.
Gates to the festival will open at 1pm.
The local support act will hit the stage at 1.30pm followed by Mental As Anything (2.30pm), Do Re Mi (3.45pm), The Church (5pm), Sunnyboys (6.30pm) and Icehouse (8pm).
Tickets, through bythec.com.au, start at $67 for children and $109 for adults and go up to $186 for premium seating.
The Lakes Mail has one double pass (containing two general admission tickets) to give away to By the C. To win the pass, send your name, daytime contact number and no more than 200 words on why you would like to win the tickets in an email titled “Camp” to info@lakesmail.com.au.
